Tems is a big inspiration to me says S’Africa’s Tyla

Grammy-winning South African artiste, Tyla Laura Seethal, has said that Nigerian R&B star, Tems, is one of her biggest musical inspirations in recent times.

In a recent interview with Billboard, Tyla, known for her hit song Water, praised Tems for her achievements in the music industry.

“Tems is a big one. What she’s been able to do has been very inspiring,” she said.

She also mentioned other artistes who have influenced her music and performance style, including Britney Spears, Whitney Houston, and Aaliyah.

Tyla, who was born in Johannesburg in 2002, rose to global fame after her song Water went viral in 2023. The track topped charts worldwide and earned her the Grammy Award for Best African Music Performance at the 66th Grammy Awards, making her the first-ever winner in the category.

Her debut album, Tyla, released in 2024, blends Afrobeats, R&B, and Amapiano, showcasing her smooth vocals and unique sound. Some of her other popular songs include Truth or Dare, On and On, and Butterflies.
Tyla also revealed that she is working on her second album, which will be released later this year. She hinted that it would be different from her debut project.
“It’s going to be completely different,” she said, sparking excitement among her fans.

Tyla continues to make waves in the music industry, and with her upcoming album, many are eager to see what new direction her sound will take.
