Grammy Award-winning singer, Tems, has become a part-owner of Major League Soccer (MLS) club, San Diego FC.

She joins the club’s star-studded ownership group alongside actress Issa Rae, baseball player Manny Machado, and former Spanish footballer Juan Mata.

Tems, whose full name is Temilade Openiyi, made the investment through her company, The Leading Vibe, in collaboration with Pave Investments, an African private investment firm. Pave’s Tunde Folawiyo and Kwamena Afful are also part of the ownership team.

Expressing her excitement, Tems said, “I am thrilled to join San Diego FC’s ownership group and to be part of a club that celebrates creativity, culture, and the power of community. Football has a unique way of bringing people together, and I am excited to help build something special in San Diego.”

SDFC’s CEO, Tom Penn, welcomed Tems to the team, praising her global influence. “Tems is an extraordinary artist and cultural force worldwide. We are honored to have her join our club and bring her visionary perspective to San Diego FC. Her passion for empowering the next generation aligns perfectly with our mission,” Penn stated.

San Diego FC is the latest MLS expansion team and will play its first-ever league match on February 23, 2025, against LA Galaxy at Dignity Health Sports Park.

The club’s first home game is scheduled for March 1, 2025, at Snapdragon Stadium, where they will face St. Louis CITY SC.
