Tems beats Tiwa Savage, peaks at number one on Spotify

Nigerian singer, Temilade Openiyi also known to her fans as Tems is now the most-streamed female African singer on Spotify.

The announcement was made by the streaming network on Twitter.

Tems reached a total of 236 million monthly listeners on Spotify beating Tiwa Savage, Yemi Alade and others.

The post said, “Tems becomes the most-streamed female Afrobeats artist of all time on Spotify with 236 million total streams surpassing Tiwa Savage”

In a recent Instagram post, the 26-year-old revealed that she did not realise how far she had come till she left Nigeria.

She said, “Gang, its one year of For Broken Ears today. Really feels like ages ago. I cannot tell it all what the Most High has done for me. Turned me into a trailblazer

“Though we are all mad, I have decided not to disguise anymore. I didn’t realise just how far I have come till I left home. Nigeria does that to you.

“Pray we all see the power we have but we’re all too busy disguising. No more. I enter the door with my full chest.”

Tems gained international recognition after featuring in Wizkid’s hit song, ‘Essence’, which gained major success worldwide.
