Nigerians on Twitter have expressed divergent views to a video of angry youths destroying and wasting bags of campaign rice after at least 15 people died in an auto accident in Iworoko-Ekiti, Ekiti State.

Recall that the crash occurred around 9:00 p.m. on Saturday night when a truck loaded with rice lost control and rammed into a popular market in the town

According to multiple reports, the bags of rice were branded with the campaign stickers of a senatorial candidate in Ondo State.

The truck crashed into three shops, a commercial bus filled with passengers and traders at the ever-busy market.

The angry youths have also vandalised the vehicle.

However, some Nigerians said it was an act of wastefulness as the rice would have been useful for the poor or internally displaced people (IDP.)

One Twitter user, simply identified as holla@alao_holla said;

“The brakes failed, the rice didn’t take over the trailer or possess the driver…

“Doesn’t call for the alacrity to wastefulness..The soul of the dead rest in peace.”

Some also applauded the youths for wasting the campaign rice saying that eating the rice will be like eating the flesh and drinking the blood of the lives that were lost.

WuzupNaija gathered that among the dead were a mother, her child, a Youth Corps member, traders and some students of the Ekiti State University in the town.
