A teenage rider was crushed to death by a long vehicle loaded with cement on Wednesday night around Terminus Market in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.
According to reports, the incident occurred at approximately 9:30 p.m. as the trailer was leaving Jos City.
The accident drew onlookers and concerned residents who rushed to the scene.
An eyewitness, Musa Audu, said the incident happened when the teenager was riding a Heelys skateboard and grabbed onto the trailer.
Unfortunately, the truck’s tire struck him, leading to his death.
Audu said, “The accident happened around 9:30 when people had already left the market. Before the victim was crushed to death, he was holding onto the vehicle and moving with it, and unfortunately, the tire of the truck hit him, threw him down, and immediately, the truck ran over him, killing him instantly.”
Nasiru Yahaya, chairman of a section of Terminus Market, confirmed the incident, explaining that Heelys riders, particularly children, often ride around Murtala Muhammed Way at night when pedestrian and vehicular traffic is low, giving them more space to engage in their activities.
He described the incident as tragic, noting that it was the first time such an accident had occurred in the area.
