An Ebonyi State Magistrate’s Court, sitting in Abakaliki, the capital, on Wednesday, remanded a 19-year-old teenager, Obumuneme Kekere, for allegedly raping one Miss Uchechi Nome, a 16-year-old year girl.
The accused person barged into a decrepit bathroom, where Miss Nome, was bathing and raped her.
The victim, it was further gathered, had made attempt to shout to draw the attention of passers-by to the incident, but the suspect threatened to kill her if she did.
Further investigations revealed the accused person committed the offence at Okeoffia Amajim Ameka Community, in the Ezza South Local Government Area of the state, on February 28, 2020.

He was arraigned before the Magistrate’s Court on one count of unlawful sexual intercourse, on Wednesday.
The Police Prosecutor, ASP Mathias Eze, told the court that the offence was punishable under section 34 (2) Ebonyi Child Right Law and Related Matters, 2010.
The charge read, “That you Obumuneme Chukwu Kekere ‘m’ on the 28th day of February 2020, at Okeoffia Amajim Ameka, in Ezza South Local Government Area, in Abakaliki Magistrate’s District, did had unlawful sexual intercourse with one Uchenna Nome ‘f’ aged 16 years, and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 34 (2) Ebonyi State Child Right Law and Related Matters, 2010.”
The accused person was not represented in court by a Defense Counsel.
Consequently, no bail application was made on his behalf.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Nnenna Onuoha, directed that the suspect be remanded at the Nigerian Correctional Centre, Abakaliki, while his case file should be transferred to the Director of Public Prosecutions, for necessary legal advice.
She, therefore, adjourned the matter till March 25, 2020, for a report of compliance.
