The Minister of Communication, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Olatunbosun Tijani, has reiterated the federal government’s commitment to leveraging the digital economy for youth empowerment and national development.

Speaking at the inauguration of a solar-powered community Information and Communication Technology centre in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Tijani emphasized the need for young Nigerians to take advantage of technology to secure financial independence and build a sustainable future.

The ICT centre, developed by the National Information Technology Development Agency, is part of a larger initiative aimed at positioning Ogun State as a hub for digital learning and innovation.

It is one of the first facilities being developed within the Abeokuta City Hall Complex, a five-hectare project set to commemorate 200 years of the Egba people by 2030.

In addition to the ICT centre, the complex will also house a modern library and an administrative building donated by Senator Solomon Adeola, representing Ogun West.

Tijani underscored the Tinubu administration’s vision of training over one million technology experts to harness digital tools for national progress.

“So, when we talk about this community ICT centre, we are not just cutting a ribbon, we are opening doors. We are expanding horizons for young people who are just like I was — full of energy, full of questions, and full of potential,” he said.

He noted that the centre will serve as a platform for students from institutions such as the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, and Crescent University to develop critical digital skills.

“It is where a secondary school student from Ijeun or Lafenwa can walk in and be introduced to programming, robotics, design thinking, or digital entrepreneurship,” the minister added.

With this initiative, the government aims to bridge the digital divide and equip young Nigerians with the skills needed to thrive in the evolving global economy.
