Team Lagos have emerged winners of the 9th National Youth Games, ending Team Delta’s dominance in the competition.
The final medal table was announced on Saturday at the closing ceremony held at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba.
Chief Amaka Ashiofu, who represented the chairman of the National Sports Commission, Mallam Shehu Dikko, declared Lagos as overall champions after they finished with 110 medals, including 52 gold, 32 silver, and 26 bronze.
Defending champions Team Delta, who had won the last editions, were pushed to second place with 114 medals but fewer gold. They secured 37 gold, 38 silver, and 39 bronze.
Team Edo, who were in contention for the top spots, settled for third place with 79 medals: 33 gold, 18 silver, and 28 bronze.
In total, 33 states went home with medals from the competition, with 802 medals shared across the board. The tally included 246 gold, 236 silver, and 320 bronze.
The victory marks Lagos’ first title in the history of the Games, breaking Delta’s long-running record and showing a shift in dominance at the youth level.
