The Transmission Company of Nigeria has reported another act of vandalism on its infrastructure, marking the fifth occurrence since February.

The latest incident involves the Shiroro-Katampe 330kV transmission line, which was vandalized on Sunday around 9 am.

According to TCN’s General Manager, Ndidi Mbah, the affected section is Towers 244 to 245 of the transmission line, and the conductors were stolen.

In response to the incident, TCN is currently mobilizing for the replacement of conductors, pending the completion of security operations at the site.

However, the second line remains operational, working in conjunction with the Gwagwalada 330kV line that serves the Kukwaba-Apo axis.

Mbah stated, “TCN personnel confirmed the vandalisation of the 330kV Shiroro-Katampe transmission line 1. TCN is currently mobilizing for conductor replacement, pending the completion of security operations at the site. Nevertheless, the second line remains fully operational, in conjunction with the Gwagwalada 330kV line serving the Kukwaba-Apo axis.”

The company expressed deep concern about the recent surge in vandalism, describing it as the fifth incident reported between February and March 2024.

The previous cases included the destruction of Tower 70 along the Gwagwalada-Katampe transmission line, vandalism of towers 377 and 378 along the Gombe-Damaturu 330kV transmission line, an attack on towers 145 to 149 and 201 to 218 along the Owerri-Ahoda 132kV transmission line, and the collapse of Tower number 388 along the Jos-Bauchi 132kV single circuit transmission line.

TCN categorized these incidents as sabotage and called on security operatives and host communities to collaborate in apprehending the culprits.
