American singer, Taylor Swift has shut down claims that she tried to steal the spotlight at Selena Gomez’s wedding by talking about her own engagement.
During her appearance on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” Swift addressed rumors that she mentioned her engagement to Travis Kelce while giving a speech at Gomez’s wedding to Benny Blanco.
“I did make a speech, but I actually made a point not to mention anything about my engagement,” Swift said. “Nobody wants you to be like, ‘Hey, I know this is your wedding day, but I’m engaged!’”
The pop star explained that she even turned her engagement ring around to keep the focus on her friend. “It was Selena’s day,” she said.
Swift added that her speech centered on their friendship and memories from 2008, not her personal life. “I talked a little about 2008, and I talked about how happy I am for her and how beautiful it’s been to be part of her life, but I did not make it about me,” she said.
Swift also praised Gomez’s look at the wedding, calling her “elegant,” “gorgeous,” and “a vision.” She added that Benny Blanco was “funny” and that she loved seeing how happy the couple looked together.
Rumors had earlier spread online that Swift made comments about Gomez “beating her to the altar,” but the singer’s remarks on Fallon’s show have now put those claims to rest.
