American pop star Taylor Swift has surprised fans by revealing her 12th studio album, The Life of a Showgirl, during her boyfriend Travis Kelce’s podcast, New Heights.

The announcement came after a day of speculation, which began when Swift’s marketing team shared 12 photos online with the caption, “Thinking about when she said ‘See you next era…’” Hours later, Kelce confirmed she would appear on his show, and her official website launched a countdown to 00:12 ET.

Her last album, The Tortured Poets Department, released in 2024, broke Spotify’s record for the most streams in a single day.

The new album’s title was revealed in a video clip from the podcast and was made available for pre-order on her website at the same time. Fans who placed orders were told it would ship before 13 October, though the release date has not been confirmed.

Swift has had a quieter start to 2025 after the end of her record-breaking Eras tour in December, which saw her perform 149 shows across 53 cities. In the UK alone, she played to nearly 1.2 million people, including eight nights at Wembley Stadium, generating an estimated £1bn for the economy.

Last year, she also regained ownership of her first six albums after a long dispute, promising fans the remaining two re-recordings would “have their moments to re-emerge when the time is right.”

Swift, now a billionaire, has won 14 Grammys and is the most awarded artist at the MTV Video Music Awards.
