The Ondo State Task Force against fake and counterfeit drugs has apprehended a fake drug manufacturer operating under the name Brother Paul Legacy Foundation in 13 states across Nigeria.
The arrest took place at the organization’s office located in the Cultural area on Ondo Road in Akure, the state capital, following a tip-off.
Speaking on the matter, Mrs. Folukemi Aladenola, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, disclosed that this deceitful drug operation was discovered peddling concoctions with alleged curative properties for a wide array of health issues, despite the substances being hazardous to people’s well-being.
Aladenola stated, “The team received information that the organization has been operating in the city since June, claiming to treat various ailments at a cost.”
“They purport to offer remedies for ailments such as cancer, low sperm count, diabetes, hypertension, hepatitis, and barrenness. Furthermore, they falsely assert that they are registered with NAFDAC.”
Aladenola expressed concern that despite the government’s efforts to provide affordable and accessible healthcare through the suspension of registration fees in government healthcare facilities, some people still patronize these quacks who charge prices ranging from ₦5,000 to ₦10,000.
She urged the public to seek healthcare services from qualified and accredited government and private facilities.
The fake drug organization will be handed over to the appropriate authorities for sanctions.
