A married woman has allegedly attacked a 17-year-old girl with a razor blade in Donga Local Government Area of Taraba State, following claims of harassment involving her husband.

The PUNCH reported that the incident, which happened on Wednesday, involved the teenager, Iwasen Terhemba, who lives with her guardian, Jemila Wanga. Community sources said the girl had been repeatedly approached by a married man identified as Abbas but rejected his advances because of her age and his marital status.

Residents said trouble began after the man’s wife, Ramatu Abbas, became aware of the situation and allegedly started issuing verbal threats against the minor.

Sources added that Wanga later approached Ramatu Abbas to explain that it was her husband who had been disturbing the girl and urged her to caution him.

However, the matter allegedly took a violent turn when Ramatu Abbas reportedly went to the girl’s residence and attacked her with a razor blade, inflicting cuts on her face.

Community members also alleged that the suspect warned the victim and her guardian not to report the incident to the police, insisting that the matter should be “settled at home.”

Speaking on the phone on Thursday, the guardian appealed for urgent intervention, saying she and her children had been threatened.

“I have just lost my husband, and I am still mourning him. They warned me not to report the case to the police and threatened my life and those of my children,” Wanga said.

She added that she has been paying for the medical treatment of the injured girl and called on the Taraba State Government, especially Governor Agbu Kefas, to assist with medical care and ensure justice.

The incident has sparked outrage in the community, with residents calling for the protection of minors and accountability for those involved.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Taraba State Police Command, Victor Mshelizah, said the case had been officially reported and investigations were ongoing.

“The victim was at the police station, and her statement has been taken. The case file is being compiled and will be charged to court,” he said.

Mshelizah added that pressure from community members would not stop the police from pursuing the case.

“We are aware of pressures being mounted on the family to withdraw the case, but we will ensure that anyone found culpable is brought to justice,” he said.
