SAD: Read why these footballers are striking
It is sad how sports people are treated differently in Nigeria than other countries.
Players of Nigeria women’s league outfit, Taraba Queens, have not been paid salaries for 18 months and they are now on strike to protest the non-payment of their salaries.
The players have also vowed not to return to training, until the Taraba Government responds to their demands.
“Our management have not been straight forward with us and the government has not responded to our SOS,” one of the players told AfricanFootball.
“We have not been paid for 18 months – 10 months from last season and eight from this season.
“Most of us have turned to begging as feeding has become a big issue for us.
“Many of us are the bread winners of our families, but now we can’t cater for them again.”
Last year, the state’s male team, FC Taraba, also protested non-payment of their salaries for over a year.
