Taraba State Governor, Dr Agbu Kefas, has signed three executive orders to ban political thuggery, protect host mining communities, and combat drug abuse in the state.
The signing took place at the Executive Chamber of the TY Danjuma House in Jalingo.
Speaking after signing the orders, Governor Kefas described the move as urgent and necessary to strengthen security, protect communities, and safeguard the future of Taraba State.
He said the executive orders were introduced to protect the lives, property, and future of the people, and that all actions taken under them would be in line with constitutional provisions and respect for citizens’ rights.
On drug abuse, the governor said the order is designed to reinforce the work of drug law enforcement agencies and promote a coordinated approach involving government, security agencies, parents, teachers, traditional rulers, and community leaders.
“My administration will not tolerate activities capable of destroying the future of our youth,” Kefas stated.
He called on parents, teachers, security agencies, traditional institutions, and community leaders to work together to protect children and young people from the dangers of drug abuse.
Speaking on the order banning political thuggery, the governor said the decision was informed by the approaching political campaign season and the need to sustain the peace and security already achieved across the state.
“The progress made by this administration in restoring stability cannot be undermined by anybody. We know the supreme price we have paid to restore peace in Taraba State by security agencies, traditional rulers, and individuals.
“Any attempt by anybody to disrupt public peace or undermine this executive order will not be tolerated,” the governor warned.
On mining, Kefas said the executive order is designed to ensure responsible and well-regulated mining operations while protecting the interests and welfare of host communities.
He added that the Taraba State Government would continue to collaborate with the Federal Government and the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development to ensure mining activities comply with established laws and best practices.
The governor expressed confidence that the three executive orders would strengthen public safety, promote responsible governance, and contribute to sustainable development across Taraba State.
