Taraba election tribunal dismisses petition against Kefas
The Taraba Governorship Election Tribunal, presided over by Justice GA Sunmonu, has dismissed a petition filed by NNPP governorship candidate, Professor Sani Yahaya against Governor Agbu Kefas.
The petition, which challenged the results of the March 18 elections, was deemed to lack merit by the tribunal.
The petitioners had based their case on two grounds: non-compliance with the electoral act and the claim that the governor did not win by a majority of valid votes. However, Sam Adda, counsel to Governor Kefas, stated that the petitioners failed to substantiate their allegations.
Emeka Okoro, counsel to INEC, further explained that the documents presented by the petitioners were considered “documentary hearsay” as testimonies from their creators did not accompany them.
Governor Kefas hailed his victory at the tribunal as a reflection of the people’s will and urged all citizens to respect the majority’s decision. He also commended the judiciary for upholding justice.
Taraba Deputy Governor Aminu Alkali called on the petitioners and all Taraba citizens to collaborate with the government in advancing the state. He extended an invitation of friendship to the NNPP, emphasizing that the government serves all parties.
