Tanzania has said that it will tackle the fires on Mount Kilimanjaro with the deployment of more helicopters and planes as from Thursday.

The fire has been raging on for five days on Kilimanjaro which is Africa’s tallest peak.

According to Tourism Minister Hamisi Kigwangalla, the effort of firemen and volunteers have not been completely successful in quenching.

Their effort is being hampered by the presence of strong winds and acres of shrubs and dry grass.

“The task is bigger and harder than we thought,” tweeted Mr Kigwangalla.

The struggle against the fire has seen contributions from 500 volunteers.

There has been any certainty on the cause of the fire, but authorities have said that it could have been caused by people cooking at a resting area on the mountain.
