Taiwan has launched a new online platform aimed at encouraging Chinese citizens to provide intelligence and information on activities within China, as tensions between Taipei and Beijing continue.

According to AFP, Taiwan’s National Security Bureau (NSB) said the website is designed to allow individuals who “share the same values of democracy” to collaborate with authorities by submitting information related to China.

China considers self governed Taiwan part of its territory and has repeatedly threatened to use force to bring the island under its control. Taiwan, however, has accused Beijing of using espionage and infiltration efforts to undermine its security and democratic institutions.

To promote the initiative, the NSB released a one minute AI generated video depicting a Chinese civil servant watching colleagues being taken away for investigation, portraying what it described as an atmosphere of fear under China’s political system.

The bureau said the video reflects “a pervasive atmosphere that everyone is on edge under China’s totalitarian regime.”

According to the agency, an increasing number of people have already approached Taiwanese authorities seeking ways to provide different types of information.

The NSB added that the reporting platform was developed based on practices used by intelligence agencies in countries such as the United States, the United Kingdom and Israel.

It said submissions received through the platform would be carefully assessed and processed using technological tools.

“The NSB will rigorously filter, evaluate, and follow up submissions to the platform using technology,” the bureau said.

The agency did not immediately provide further details on how the platform would operate or the type of intelligence it expects to receive.
