Taiwan has released fresh heavy rain warnings following days of intense rainfall that left at least two people dead and caused widespread flooding across the island, according to local media reports citing weather officials.
The Central Weather Administration announced torrential and extremely heavy rain alerts for Yunlin County, warning that accumulated rainfall could surpass 200 millimeters (7.9 inches) within 24 hours or reach 100 millimeters (3.9 inches) in a three-hour period, Focus Taiwan reported.
Rainfall advisories remained active in several parts of the island, including central, southern, eastern, and northern regions such as Taichung, Tainan, Kaohsiung, and Taipei. Authorities said the heavy rains were expected to gradually reduce by Saturday.
The latest warnings came after severe weather conditions caused major flooding in several communities.
Local officials said 487 flood-related incidents had been reported across Taiwan since Thursday, while 74 locations were still submerged as of Friday.
Residents in affected communities have been advised to stay alert as threats from flash floods, landslides, and other weather-related dangers continue, even with forecasts indicating that conditions may improve later.
