Bishop T.D. Jakes, the leader of the Potter’s House megachurch in Dallas, United States has reassured his congregation and supporters about his health following a scare during his Sunday sermon.

Jakes, 67, confirmed that the incident was not a stroke, as many feared.

The moment, which quickly spread online, showed Jakes visibly struggling toward the end of his hour-long sermon, prompting immediate help from those on stage.

In a statement shared on Wednesday via X, Jakes expressed gratitude to God and the medical team that responded swiftly. “I give thanks unto the Lord that I did not have a stroke. However, the event could’ve been fatal if it weren’t for God’s intervention,” he wrote.

Jakes reflected on the experience as a reminder of human frailty and the importance of rest. He stated, “Rest is not a weakness – it is a divine gift. My job now is to recuperate and reflect on God’s protection. I owe it to my family and church members to rest as He restores me for His service.”

The bishop praised his family and church leadership for their support. “Together, we press forward, steadfast in the work the Lord has set before us. I’ve been overwhelmed by the outpouring of love from the global community. God’s faithfulness was unmistakable to all those present,” he added.

His daughter, Sarah Jakes Roberts, also shared updates about her father’s recovery. “Bishop is doing well, recovering under medical care. We’re grateful this wasn’t a tragic day, and we thank everyone for their prayers,” she said.

The Potter’s House, which Jakes founded in 1996, has over 30,000 members. Known for his impactful sermons, Jakes remains an influential spiritual leader across the globe.
