Officers of the Ipaja Police Division successfully stopped an attack on their station early Monday morning, May 27, 2024. The attack came after police started enforcing Lagos State’s new motorcycle ban.

The incident began when hundreds of motorbike operators, armed with deadly weapons, attacked the station. They fired shots at the officers and tried to take control of the facility.

Reinforcements from the Area Command and the Rapid Response Squad quickly arrived to support the division’s officers. Despite the intense assault, the police managed to hold their ground. During the confrontation, two attackers were fatally injured.

The police continued their operation, seizing more than 200 motorcycles, arresting several attackers, and recovering one locally made firearm.

SP Benjamin Hundeyin, in a statement after the attack, said, “The Lagos State Police Command will not be intimidated into assuming its duties of upholding law and order in the society and enforcing all legally passed laws.”
