Suspected armed bandits have reportedly abducted a woman and her baby along the Supare-Ayegunle Road in Akoko South West Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The nursing mother, whose identity has not yet been confirmed, was said to be travelling with her child to the market when they were seized by the assailants.

Eyewitnesses said the gunmen launched a sudden attack, triggering panic among motorists and other road users in the area.

The incident has further heightened anxiety among residents, who expressed worry over the growing insecurity on rural roads within the Akoko axis.

Reacting to the development on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Ondo State Police Command, DSP Jimoh Abayomi, said the incident could not be immediately confirmed due to limited information.

“The information at my disposal is still very sketchy, and I can’t confirm it yet. I’ll revert once there’s enough information,” Abayomi said.

However, a close relative of the victims, who requested anonymity, confirmed the abduction and said the family has been plunged into distress.

The source disclosed that the husband of the abducted woman, a popular furniture maker in Akungba-Akoko, has been appealing to security agencies to intensify efforts to secure the safe rescue of his wife and child.

The family also called on the authorities to step up patrols and strengthen security along the Supare-Ayegunle Road, which residents say has become prone to attacks and kidnappings.
