Muhuyi Rimingado, the Chairman of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission, has claimed that one of the suspects under investigation by his commission used the police to arrest him.
Rimingado spoke about his arrest during an appearance on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief programme on Monday. He stated that the arrest was related to his duties in leading the anti-corruption agency.
“It’s not surprising because corruption is fighting back. When you fight corruption, corruption will fight back. Anti-corruption work is fair, but the fight against corruption is dirty,” Rimingado said. He added that three different federal agencies were now targeting him.
The arrest followed an investigation by the PCACC into an alleged fraud involving a former Managing Director of Kano Agricultural Supply Company Limited. Rimingado explained that his commission had uncovered that about N4 billion of Kano State government funds had been stolen by a public officer through various entities.
“We investigated that public officer, seized the properties, and followed the law,” Rimingado said. “But after the accused was arraigned, they tried to tamper with the evidence, which is not allowed by law. We moved the exhibits to a safe place until the court makes a decision. That’s when they decided to use the police against me.”
Rimingado said the police accused him of abuse of power, mischief, and trespass. He questioned the charges, stating that his commission is legally authorized to investigate and prosecute corruption cases.
