Indication has emerged that one of the six survivors of the tragic Chapecoense plane crash has the memory of the tragic incident completely wiped out of his consciousness.
According to the the NY daily, Helio Hermito Zampier Neto is being given no clues as to what happened the tragic day most of his teammates died.
The 31-year-old defender for the Chapecoense soccer team is still in the hospital with serious injuries. He’s asked hospital visitors how the team placed in the Copa Sudamericana finals, specifically in their game against Colombian team Atletico Nacional, according to reports.
Psychiatrists
have requested that the player should not be told about the incident yet.
The step was taken “to avoid any emotional shock that would be potentially damaging for his clinical recovery at this moment,” the team’s doctor, Carlos Mendonca said.
Neto was taken off life support on Saturday after nine days in a drug-induced coma and multiple surgeries. Medical authorities expect the player will make a full recovery.
Nineteen of Neto’s teammates and 52 others died in the November 28 plane crash, including 20 journalists set to cover the team.
Authorities have indicted the airline owners for negligence as facts have emerged that the accident was caused by insufficient fuel running out on the plane mid-air.
