Surveyors calls for Lagos census to aid urban planning
“We envision a well-planned and efficient Lagos with adequate housing, infrastructure, and universal access to employment and basic services such as water, energy, and sanitation,” he said.
He stressed the importance of conducting a population census to determine the exact number of people residing in Lagos.
The surveyors also highlighted the role of proper surveying in ensuring the durability of infrastructure.
“The frequent collapse of various infrastructures across the country could be attributed to not getting the foundation right. Surveyors are best equipped to ensure the proper foundation is put in place for all aspects of national development,” Kasim noted.
The institution called for greater recognition of surveying professionals in the building sector, stressing the need to engage the right experts for sustainable urban development.
“We have been working with the government to establish a strong link between planning, urban laws, and sustainable development. Our goal is to shape the physical growth of Lagos State in terms of spatial order, design, land use, and infrastructure, ensuring a better future for our city,” he added.
As part of efforts to promote best practices in the built environment, the institution revealed that it had invested heavily in capacity building to equip members with relevant skills for improved service delivery.
