Super Falcons goalkeeper, Chiamaka Nnadozie, has announced the death of her elder brother, throwing the Nigerian football community into mourning.

Nnadozie shared the sad news in an emotional post on her social media page on Sunday, December 29, 2025, expressing deep grief over the loss.

“Forever in my heart big brother. Your laughter echoes in my soul. The bond we shared can’t be broken by time or distance. Your spirit guides us,” she wrote.

She added, “Losing you is a pain like no other, but I’ll honor your life by living mine with courage. Every star holds your light; every memory, a treasure. My rock, my friend, my guide. Rest easy, my brother.”

No further details were given about the cause of death or the identity of her brother, as the footballer kept the announcement private and personal.

The heartbreaking news comes at a time when Nnadozie is enjoying one of the most successful periods of her career. She was recently crowned the 2025 CAF Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year, completing a historic hat-trick and further cementing her status as Africa’s top shot-stopper.

Following her post, tributes poured in from fans, teammates and members of the Nigerian football community, many describing her as Africa’s best goalkeeper while offering prayers and words of comfort.

Nnadozie remains a key figure for both club and country and one of Nigeria’s most celebrated female footballers, admired for her performances on the pitch and her resilience off it.
