Nigeria women’s national football team, Super Falcons, got their 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations back on track in Morocco by defeating Botswana 2-0.

Despite losing star striker, Asisat Oshoala, to injury, Randy Waldrum’s women bounced back from Monday’s opening Group C 2-1 loss to rivals South Africa.

On the other hand, the Mares began their campaign with a 4-2 victory against Burundi on Monday and were hoping to extend their lead atop the table but the Nigerian women crashed the party.

Ifeoma Onumonu’s 21st minute opener gave the Falcons the much-deserved lead before Christy Ucheibe doubled the lead three minutes into the second half to complete the victory at the Moulay Hassan FUS Stadium.

With 18 attempts to Burundi’s six, the Falcons could have scored more goals but six of their eight shots on target failed to find the back of the net while the opponents managed only to shots on target.

The reigning African champions moved to second in Group C with the Bayana Bayana topping the log after defeating bottom-placed Burundi 3-1 on Monday.

Waldrum’s women will book a place in the next round with a victory over Burundi in their final Group C game on Sunday.
