Super Eagles name starting XI for Tanzania clash

The Super Eagles have released their starting lineup for their opening match at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations against Tanzania.

The Group C fixture will be played on Tuesday evening at the Complexe Sportif de Fes in Fez, Morocco, with kick-off set for 6.30pm local time.

Nigeria, three-time AFCON champions, are beginning another title push after finishing as runners-up at the 2023 tournament.

The team list was made public on Tuesday via the Super Eagles’ official X account ahead of the highly anticipated encounter.

The starting lineup shows a mix of experience and attacking quality, with Victor Osimhen leading the forward line alongside Ademola Lookman and Samuel Chukwueze.

Stanley Nwabili starts in goal, while the defence includes Ola Aina Osayi, Zaidu Sanusi, Semi Ajayi and Calvin Bassey. Wilfred Ndidi will captain the side from midfield, alongside Alex Iwobi.

The attacking setup features Lookman, Osimhen and Chukwueze, with Akor Adams also named in the starting team.

According to the team announcement shared online, “Starting XI vs Tanzania,” confirming Ndidi as captain for the opener.

The substitutes available for the match are Igoh Ogbu, Frank Onyeka, Dele-Bashiru, Cyriel Dessers, Bruno Onyemaechi, Moses Simon, Amas Obasogie, Raphael Onyedika, Paul Onuachu, Chidozie Awaziem, Samuel Ejuke, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru Akinsanmiro, Sadiq Alebiosu and Nnadi.

Tuesday’s game marks Nigeria’s first test in the group as the Super Eagles aim to make a strong start to their AFCON 2025 campaign.
