Members of the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria have shut down the National Assembly in compliance with the indefinite strike declared by organised labour.
According to DailyTrust, PASAN blocked the entrance and exit gates of the National Assembly with two coastal buses.
Likewise, the union has shut down the electricity and water supply to the two buildings housing the Senate and the House of Representatives, as well as to other facilities in the National Assembly complex.
The organised labour had insisted that its indefinite strike would begin today as planned following the federal government’s refusal to increase the minimum wage above N60,000.
Labour, after a four-hour meeting with the leadership of the National Assembly on Sunday evening in Abuja, said
there was no going back on the nationwide industrial action slated to start on Monday, June 3, 2024.
Earlier today, the Transmission Company of Nigeria released a statement noting that the current blackout experience on the nation was as a result of the strike.
Likewise, airports, schools, the federal secretariat and FIRS office in Abuja and Lagos has been closing respectively in compliance with the strike.
Although, some states and parastatals are not affected by strike actions, Nigerians have reacted differently to the strike action.
