Street hawking, delaying workers salaries are modern-day slavery – Culture promoter

A culture and entertainment promoter, Iwalewa Coker, on Sunday urged the Federal Government to create platforms to properly educate Nigerians on the history of slavery and its abolition.

This is just as he declared that conscription of children brought from neighbouring countries as housemaids or street hawkers as well as delaying workers salaries are extension of modern-day slavery.

Coker, who is also the founder of Carnival and Cultural Pride, stated that this could be done through publications and sensitisation programmes.

He added that if the government placed importance on national history of slavery and its abolition, it would better enlighten the young generation on how to curb it.
