Nigerian comedian and actor Bright Okpocha, popularly known as Basketmouth, has called fellow comedians to stop demeaning the comedy profession by begging for money during performances.
Speaking on the podcast CreativiTea on Friday, the 46-year-old comedian urged upcoming comedians to maintain professionalism on stage.
He said, “You guys that are just coming up, comedians, you guys should stop begging for money on stage.
“You can just go on stage and perform, just crack a joke and get the f*** out; I am pissed off at how you guys have watered than the arts.
“If you want to beg, go to the streets.”
Basketmouth also addressed his senior colleagues, encouraging them to collaborate with younger comedians to elevate their craft.
He said, “It gets to a point where you start learning from the younger generation. I am learning from these guys.
“Yes, he dey here [pointing to his head], but it is their time. I would tell all my age mates, don’t work with your age mates; collaborate, you need to get these guys to share your platform with you. It is just a matter of time they will pass you.”
The comedian also mentioned his upcoming movie, which is set to be released in November.
