A married couple have been arrested in Kaduna State for the alleged brutalisation of a five-year-old girl that lives with them.

Rahmatu and her husband had beaten the girl to near death and almost blinded her for defecating on her bed after complaining of stomach pain.

The development angered Rahmatu, who descended on the victim, leaving her physical injuries, mainly on her face.

Angered the inhumane treatment of the child, a neighbour alerted members of an NGO, Umukhail Foundation, who rescued the girl and reported to the state Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development.

The Commissioner, MWASD, Hajiya Hafsat Baba, confirmed the incident.

He said the girl had been treated at Barau Dikko Specialist Hospital, Kaduna and now in safe custody pending when her father would come from Maiduguri, Borno State where they hail from.
