Satellite internet provider, Starlink, has announced a significant increase in its monthly subscription fees for both current and new customers.
In a message sent to its users on Tuesday, Starlink revealed that the price hike is a result of “excessive levels of inflation” and is necessary to align with the current economic situation. The standard residential package will now cost ₦75,000, while the mobile regional (roam unlimited) package is priced at ₦167,000. The mobile global (global roam) package will see a substantial increase, with a new price of ₦717,000.
For new customers, the new prices take effect immediately. Existing customers, however, will experience the increase starting on October 31, 2024.
“Your monthly service price will increase in one month, starting from 31 October 2024. For new customers, the price increase takes effect immediately,” the company stated.
Starlink also assured customers that they have the option to cancel their service without penalties if they choose not to continue with the new rates.
The increase in prices reflects the growing challenges posed by inflation, which continues to affect the cost of goods and services across various sectors globally.
