NPFL Matchday 37: Nasarawa United beat Enugu Rangers 3-0
Nasarawa United Football Club on Monday defeated visiting Enugu Rangers International Football Club 3-0 in their rearranged 2020/2021 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Matchday 37 encounter.
The fixture played at the Lafia Township stadium saw Ikenna Offor and Abdullahi Aliyu putting Nasarawa United ahead in the 5th and 43rd minute of the first half, while Ini Edem scored the third goal in the 88th minute.
Speaking after the match, Bala Nikyu, Head Coach of Nasarawa United, praised his boys for capitalising on their goal-bound chances.
“With 3-0, it is a good game. It is not because we played better, but because we had chances and made use of them. Rangers actually played very good football.
“At a time, I was becoming afraid of what they were playing. But it is a good thing that anytime you have opportunities, you make use of them,” he said.
Also speaking to newsmen, Mangut Mbwase, Head Coach of Enugu Rangers Intl FC, blamed his team’s slow start in the game for their poor performance and eventual loss to their hosts.
“In the second half, we came up trying to put ourselves together, but they still got a goal. So, I give kudos to them. The Nasarawa United team is a very young mobile side that circulates the ball well and they are very effective in attacks.
“They have been doing it all season. So I give credit to them,” he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that after 37 matches, Nasarawa United still had maintained its second position on the NPFL table and have qualified for the Aug.7 finals of the 2021 Aiteo Cup. (NAN)
