W/Cup Play-off: Ghana hold Nigeria to goalless draw
The Super Eagles of Nigeria were held to a goalless draw by Ghana in the first leg of the World Cup qualifier play-off clash at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.
Although the encounter failed to meet the hype, both sides had the opportunity to punish one another with one or two chances in both halves but were not clinical enough in front of goals.
Nigeria thought they were awarded a penalty late in the second half when a Ghanaian defender handled the ball in their 18-yeard box.
But the referees who initially pointed to the spot overturned his decision for a foul by Kelechi Iheanacho after reviewing the incident via the pitchside monitor.
Everything is at stake for both sides and Augustine Eguavoen’s side will have a lot to do when they host Ghana at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abuja on Tuesday for the second leg.
