Man Utd: Eric Bailly confronts Solskjaer over Maguire’s selection

Published

Ivory Coast defender, Eric Bailly, has reportedly confronted under-fire Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, for selecting unfit Harry Maguire ahead of him for the game against Leicester.

Maguire had a three-week calf injury layoff ahead of the clash at the King Power Stadium but Solskjaer fielded his skipper who had only trained once as United woefully lost by 4-2, with the English clearly out of sorts.

UK Sun reports that Bailly’s frustration grew over time as Maguire kept his place in the game against Atalanta and the humiliation at home to Liverpool, where he[Maguire] produced sub-par performances.

According to the Telegraph, Bailly ‘openly challenged’ Solskjaer over his selection in the wake of the loss.

The former Villarreal defender who penned a new three-year contract in April has made just one appearance this season – starting against West Ham in the League Cup.

The publication recalled that the 27-year-old Ivorian hasn’t even been included on the bench for four of United’s nine Premier League matches so far.

It is also reported that other players have been left frustrated by Solskjaer’s decisions this season.

Members of the dressing room have questioned why Jesse Lingard, Donny van de Beek and Nemanja Matic aren’t getting more game time.

Sunday’s humiliating 5-0 defeat against bitter rivals Liverpool left Solskjaer clinging to his job.

Former Chelsea and Inter Milan manager, Antonio Conte is reportedly leading the race to replace the Norwegian, as Ol Trafford bosses are said to be considering his sack.

Also, ex-Real Madrid coach and legend, Zinedine Zidane, is said to be one of the four managers on United’s shortlist which also includes Leicester City’s Brendan Rodgers and Ajax chief Erik ten Hag.
