Lukaku’s brace helps Chelsea beat Aston Villa
Romelu Lukaku scored twice on Saturday as Chelsea returned to winning ways with a 3-0 victory over Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues dropped their first points of the season in the well-earned 1-1 draw against Liverpool after a red card to Reece James but the hosts ensured there was no repeat of their last game.
Lukaku netted Chelsea’s opener in the 15th minute after an assist form Croatian midfielder, Mateo Kovačić.
Thomas Tuchel’s side kept pressing but the Villans resisted the advances of their host to keep the deficit by a lone goal.
The inevitable however happened four minutes into the second half when Lukaku returned the favour to Kovačić who doubled Chelsea’s tally.
Dean Smith’s men kept looking for a comeback into the game but efforts from John McGinn, Ollie Watkins and Tyronne Mings failed to make a mark against Mendy who denied Danny Ings an equaliser in the first half.
Lukaku got his double a few minutes to the final whistle as Chelsea wrapped the game 3-0 to hand Villa their sixth straight Stamford Bridge loss in the Premier League.
Chelsea are second on the table behind Manchester United on goal difference.
