Premier League giant, Liverpool, have reached an agreement with Olympique Lyon for the sale of Switzerland star, Xherdan Shaqiri, in a £9.5 million deal.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the 29-year-old made the move to Anfield in 2018 is expected to sign a three-year deal with the French giant until 2024.

Lyon had an initial opening bid believed to be around €6m turned down before retuning for an improved bid, double the previous amount, for the Swiss.

Shaqiri had pushed for the move away from Anfield after he completed his agreement on personal terms with Lyon on August 12, according to Romano.

The Swiss who was bought for £13.5 million from Stoke City has struggled to break into Jurgen Klopp's starting eleven and has only managed 63 appearances across three seasons.

UK Metro reports that the 29-year-old is expected in France for a medical ahead of the move.

"The important thing at this moment in my career is to be able to play regularly, but that hasn’t always been the case in the last three seasons,’ Shaqiri told Corriere dello Sport last month.

"This is why I told Liverpool that I feel ready for a new challenge. They accepted my wish and will seriously consider the offers that will come. They will not stop me.

"I’m only 29 years old, I have played in some of the best Leagues in Europe and I would like to continue being a part of them.

"I’m not yet thinking about the end of my career, it’s a future I imagine far away. We will see what destiny has in store for me."
