JUST IN: Salah bags hattrick as Liverpool humiliate Man Utd 5-0

Published

Mohammed Salah scored a hattrick as Manchester United suffer a humiliating 5-0 white-wash at home to Liverpool in the Premier League on Sunday.

Paul Pogba was a surprise exclusion from the starting lineup against a strong Liverpool side who also fielded a powerful eleven, albeit without highflying Sadio Mane and Joel Matip who has been outstanding so far this season.

Liverpool capitalised on a jittery start from the United and got the lead five minutes into the game through Naby Keïta after an assist from Mohammed Salah.

United were punished again eight minutes later after an error by captain, Harry Maguire, in front of goal gave Diogo Jota (13′) his fourth goal against The Red Devils (two apiece for Wolves and Liverpool) as the visitors lead 2-0.

Things went from bad to worse for the hosts as Mohamed Salah netted a brace (38′, 45+5′) in the space of 11 minutes to end the first half 4-0.

Liverpool resumed business in the second half and Salah completed his hattrick five minutes into the second half.

Salah became the first away player to score a hat-trick at Old Trafford for over 18 years, since Ronaldo did so for Real Madrid back in April 2003 in the Champions League.

United’s woes were further compounded five minutes later when Paul Pogba was sent off after a VAR check for a poor tackle on Keita.

The game turned into a training ground for Liverpool as hundreds of fans stormed out of Old Trafford following the humiliation.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani tried to pull a goal back for United after a few chances but the Portuguese’s effort was ruled out by VAR for offside while the Uruguayn hit the crossbar.

Liverpool climb above Manchester City into second as United languish in seventh spot with 14 points, eight adrift league leaders Chelsea after nine matches.

Since the Carabao Cup defeat to West Ham on September 22, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have been winless in their last five domestic matches, including four in the Premier League.
