Inter agree Romelu Lukaku loan deal with Chelsea

Published

Belgian striker, Romelu Lukaku, is close to a return to Inter Milan, a season after leaving the 2020/21 Italian Champions for a return to Chelsea.

The 29-year-old underperformed on his return to Stamford Bridge, netting just eight goals and one assist in 26 Premier League appearances.

Lukaku had a fallout with the manager, Thomas Tuchel, after he openly expressed the desire to return to Inter after just about four months into his four-year deal which cost the Blues a whopping £97.5m.

However, Chelsea have now agreed on a season-long loan deal for the striker with Inter for a fee of €8m (£6.9m) plus add-ons, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The respected Italian journalist reported that there will be “no buy option or obligation clause” in the deal, noting that the add-ons will be related to team performances.

In December, Lukaku told Sky in Italy he wanted to return to Inter one day. He said: “I really hope in the depths of my heart to return to Inter, not at the end of my career, but at a still good level to hopefully win more.”

The Belgian scored 64 goals in 95 games and helped them to the Serie A title during his time at the club.
