Europa League not Barca’s place, we start from scratch, Xavi vows

Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez has reacted to his side’s elimination from the UEFA Champions League after Wednesday’s 3-0 defeat at Bayern Munich.

The five-time European champions dropped down to the Europa League after missing failing to qualify for the UCL’s last 16 for the first time in 21 years.

Reacting to the relegation, Xavi who took over as coach four weeks ago noted that the Europa League competition is not their place, vowing that they will come back stronger by building from the scratch.

“I’m angry. I don’t like that this is our reality now. We start a new era from here – to work hard and get back in the Champions League.”

“We start from scratch. Unfortunately, we are in the Europa League, which is not the place for us.

“We will work hard to put Barcelona back in the right place. We have many things to correct.

“We need to win the Europa League and recover the points in the Spanish league.

“We have had some injuries, maybe we can sign some more players, but we start from zero,” Xavi was quoted by AFP.

Benfica who defeated Dynamo Kiev 2-0 sealed Barcelona fate as the Portuguese pipped the Blaugrana by a point to finish second leaving the Spaniards third.
