JUST IN: Iwobi late goal helps 10-man Everton sink Newcastle

Super Eagles attacker, Alex Iwobi, netted a late winner to help 10-man Everton defeat Newcastle United at Goodison Park on Thursday night.

Frank Lampard's men were just a spot adrift the drop zone on goal difference despite sharing a similar 22 points with 18th placed Watford.

The hosts who had three matches in hand going into the fixture needed nothing but a win in their desperate quest to escape relegation.

An end to end exchange between Lampard's side and Eddi Howe's remained goalless after over an hour as both sides searched desperately for the breakthrough.

Everton's woes were compounded seven minutes to the end of the regular time when Alan was sent off for a cynical challenge on Allan Saint-Maximin, reducing the hosts to 10 men.

The officials added 14 minutes to the game after play was stopped in the first half when a pitch invader tied himself to one of the goalposts.

But against all odds, Iwobi found the back of the net in the 99th minute against, sending the Toffees faithful wild in jubilation.

Everton held on till the 118th minute to secure the all-important win as they go three points clear of the drop zone with two games in hand.

The victory is Everton's second in the year 2022 while the defeat served as Newcastle's first in the league to the hosts since December 2019, ending a four-match unbeaten run against the Toffees in the division.
