Gustavo Sangare celebrates first goal of the AFCON 2021 tournament

Burkina Faso's Gustavo Sangare scored the first goal of the 2021 African Cup of Nations holding in Cameroon.

Sangare netted a brilliant finish in the 24th minute after a brilliant cross from Aston Villa's Bertrand Traoré left the hosts scrambling.

The lead did not last long however as The Indomitable Lions were awarded a penalty after Traore's clumsy tackle on André-Frank Zambo Anguissa

Vincent Aboubakar equalised for the host from the spot-kick in the 40th minute after a cheap penalty was given away by the visitors.

Cameroon were awarded another penalty in the stoppage time of the first half after another needless tackle by a Burkina Faso defender.

Aboubakar rose to the occasion, sending the Burkina Faso goalkeeper the wrong way for the second time in the space of six minutes to give Cameroon a 2-1 lead into the break.

Meanwhile, Burkina Faso's Steeve Yago was booked after 40 seconds of their opening #AFCON2021 match with Cameroon.

According to The Analyst, that was the fastest yellow card given in an AFCON tournament match since André Ayew for Ghana vs. Angola on 24 January 2010 (31 secs).
