Manchester United star, Bruno Fernandes, has broken David Beckham's 23-year-old Champions League record.

Fernandes provided the assist for youngster, Anthony Elanga, to score United's leveller in the 1-1 draw against Atletico Madrid in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16 clash.

The Portuguese maestro has now registered at least one assist in six consecutive matches in the Champions League this season.

He becomes the first footballer playing for an English club to do so for the first time in 23 years.

United legend, Beckham, was the last footballer playing in an English club, to do so in 1998.

Reacting after the game, Fernandes said, "Going in level to the 2nd leg. Expecting a great European night at Old Trafford."

United head back to Old Trafford with everything to fight for when they welcome the Spaniards for the second leg of their round of 16 clash on March 15.

Meanwhile, goalscorer, Elanga's goal was Man Utd's 500th in the European Cup/UEFA Champions League.

OptaJoe reported that the tally has bettered by only Real Madrid (1001), Bayern München (760) and Barcelona (624).
