Spanish giants, Barcelona, have announced the extension of Ronald Araujo’s contract until June 30, 2026.

The club announced on Tuesday that it had reached an agreement with the Uruguayan defender to extend his stay at the Camp Nou by four years.

According to a statement on the club’s website, Araujo’s “buy out clause stipulated is set at €1bn.”

The signing of the Uruguayan’s new contract will take place on Friday 29 April in a closed even on the field at Camp Nou, the club added.

Born in Rivera, Uruguay, on 7 March 1999. The young central defender began playing professionally for his hometown team and later joined the lower categories at Rentistas in the Uruguayan Second Division.

Araujo stood out in his country and Boston River signed him. After one year of playing in Montevideo and gaining experience in the Uruguayan top flight, he signed a five-year contract with Barça B on 29 August 2018.

He became part of the FC Barcelona first-team squad in the 2020/21 season and won his first trophy at the Club, the Copa del Rey.

Araujo “has proved himself to be the present and future for Barça, becoming an integral part of the Blaugrana defence.

“His talents in defence and scoring goals mean he is a player for years to come as his tally of four goals this season proves,” the club said.
