AFCON2021: 'God told me to end' Tunisia vs Mali game before 90 minutes — controversial referee Sikazwe

Referee Janny Sikazwe who officiated the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations clash between Tunisia and Mali has claimed that "God told him to end the game" before 90 minutes.

Sikazwe left the Carthage Eagles the rest of the world in total shock when he blew his whistle for full-time five minutes before the full 90 minutes was up in Tunisia's opening group game against Mali on January 12.

The Zimbabwean was forced to restart the match but he ended up causing more controversy when he ended the game again before full time.

As the competition enters into the semifinals on Wednesday, Sikazwe has now shed light on the controversial decision as Mali defeated Tunisia 1-0.

He said, “I have seen people going for duties outside the country and come back in a casket,” he told reporters after arriving back in Zambia.

“I was very close to coming back like that. I was lucky I didn’t go into a coma. It would have been a very different story.

“The doctors told me my body was not cooling down. It would have been just a little time before [I would have gone] into a coma, and that would have been the end.

“I think God told me to end the match. He saved me.”
