The Minister of Sports Development, John Owan Enoh, on Monday, called upon critical stakeholders and Nigerians to support Finidi George, the newly appointed coach of the Super Eagles.

Speaking at George’s unveiling as the new head coach of the Super Eagles inside the Media Centre of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, Minister Enoh expressed confidence in George’s ability to elevate the Super Eagles to greater heights.

Enoh emphasized the importance of support from all Nigerians for George to succeed in his new role, stating, “For this to happen, George requires the support of all Nigerians for him to succeed.”

According to the minister, George bears the responsibility of revitalizing Nigerian Football and bringing back its liveliness and excitement.

He also highlighted the significance of maintaining the momentum and support for Nigerian Football, especially under President Bola Tinubu’s administration, which commenced with strong backing for the sport. Enoh stressed, “we can’t afford to let him down”.

The President of the Nigerian Football Federation, Dr. Ibrahim Muza Gusau, echoed Enoh’s sentiments, noting that George’s appointment marked a new era in Nigerian Football.

Gusau affirmed that the appointment aligns with the desire of Nigerians for an indigenous coach to lead the Super Eagles. He emphasized that the selection of an indigenous coach was a response to the public’s demand, directing the technical team to look inward for the national team’s coaching position.

Now that George has been chosen, Gusau urged all Nigerians to throw their weight behind him, especially with the World Cup and AFCON qualifiers approaching.

In response, Finidi George expressed gratitude to the NFF and Nigerians for his appointment. He pledged to dedicate his efforts to uplifting Nigerian Football to greater heights, promising to give his best to the task ahead.
