Speed Darlington is calling for a rematch after losing to Portable in a much-publicised celebrity boxing match—an event that took an even sharper turn when Grammy-winning artist Burna Boy rewarded Portable with N20 million shortly after his win.
The bout, which ended in Portable’s favour, stirred further controversy when the singer announced that he used Burna Boy’s monetary gift to buy himself a brand-new Ford F-150 truck.
In an Instagram video posted on Thursday, April 24, 2025, Portable, surrounded by cheering friends, proudly revealed, “I bought it from the money Burna Boy gave me and I joined more to it.”
Earlier in the week, Burna Boy had gifted Portable the large sum as a congratulatory gesture for the victory. In response, Portable showered him with praise in a now-viral post. “Life is hard. You have to thank your helpers. Before you become a billionaire in this life, your eyes will see a lot. I have tasted money but if you see someone to send you N2,000 in Nigeria, thank the person. Some people, it is advice that they give to one. Even if you go and kneel down in their houses, you won’t see a single thing. Let me thank the person that gave me N20m but did not look at my side. I believe you will still look at my side. Odogwu, I love you. That money you gave me is motivating me. Money buys happiness. Burna daddy, you use N20m to buy me happiness. You are big. People should emulate you,” he said, extending gratitude to Burna Boy’s parents as well.
While fans of Portable and Burna Boy praised the gesture, the move has reignited the long-standing tension between Burna Boy and Speed Darlington. The rift stems from a 2024 controversy, when Darlington accused Burna Boy of engaging in an inappropriate relationship with American rapper Diddy to boost his chances of winning a Grammy.
The allegation led to Darlington’s arrest and arraignment on charges of defamation and cyberstalking, although he was later released on bail.
Reacting to his loss in the boxing ring and Portable’s reward, Speed Darlington took to Instagram demanding another chance. “Portable, I want a rematch. It is painful that you will keep all that money to yourself. It’s so unfair. You have had two experiences before our fight. I didn’t come from poverty, so I never needed to learn how to fight. I want to build a swimming pool for my villagers; I need a rematch,” he stated.
He also took a jab at Burna Boy, seemingly accusing him of being fixated on his life. “Nobody watch you more than your enemy. You know why? Because they want to know if you’re doing well. Long face sleeps on my page. His whole life is now checking up on me,” he posted.
As calls for a rematch grow and social media continues to buzz with reactions, fans are left to wonder if this rivalry will stay in the ring—or spill over into another dramatic chapter.
