Renowned Nollywood actress, Adunni Ade, has candidly shared her feelings about speaking the Yoruba language, revealing that she finds it draining and, at times, it hurts her nerves.
The actress, born to a German-American mother and a Nigerian father of Yoruba descent, expressed her sentiments during a recent episode of the Channels Television programme, Morning Brief.
Ade, known for her roles in various Nollywood productions, spoke about her preference for English, which is Nigeria’s lingua franca. She emphasized that, in her opinion, all other languages should be set aside, giving prominence to English as the primary language in the country.
“Speaking Yoruba is draining, sometimes it hurts my nerves. The first language that we know in Nigeria is English. Let’s put all the other languages aside,” Adunni Ade remarked during the interview.
Despite her preference for English, the actress expressed gratitude for her father’s decision to bring her to Nigeria.
She acknowledged the importance of learning about Nigerian culture, language, and everything Nigerian.
