Speaker Abbas vows to boost security through legislation

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, has pledged to enact more legislation to address the root causes of security challenges in Nigeria and strengthen the capacity of the Armed Forces to respond to these threats. 

He made this promise on Thursday during a two-day post-inauguration retreat for House Committee on Defence members.

Security is a top priority for the 10th House, and the Speaker emphasized the importance of ensuring that the Armed Forces and police are well-equipped and adequately funded to tackle the multiple security challenges facing Nigeria. 

He also highlighted the critical role of legislators in providing the necessary legislative frameworks to support the national security architecture.

Tajudeen reiterated the 10th House’s commitment to supporting the efforts of security agencies through adequate funding, provision of modern equipment, increased training, and improved welfare packages for security personnel. He emphasized that the House’s Legislative Agenda prioritizes security and outlines their commitment to adopting legislative measures to improve national security.

The Legislative Agenda of the House, which I unveiled on Tuesday, 14th November 2023, highlights security and states our commitment to adopting legislative measures to improve national security”, he said.

The Committee Chairman, Babajimi Benson, expressed concern about the current security challenges in Nigeria but assured Nigerians that the committee is determined to perform its legislative duties effectively and efficiently to ensure the safety of lives and property.
